Tales of… the giddy gamer

Hyped for Videogames – 2022 Edition

Let’s see what’s on my plate for 2022. As per usual, very few big names, plus a few interesting indies. In no particular order.

Elden Ring

Yes, I am hyped for Elden Ring. Yes, just like any other gamer who has played any FromSoftware game. Yes, very likely to be my Game of the Year. What can I add, that hasn’t been said before? Nothing. Next …

Planned for: February 25, 2022 | Steam

Other big names?

I wanted to include Black Myth: Wukung, but that one is planned for 2023. Horizon Forbidden West looks good, but Horizon Zero Dawn couldn’t keep me going for more than two hours. The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild Sequel? No, never finished the first one. Depending on the reviews I might give Stray a chance (btw, extrapoints for the logo).

Planned for: Early 2022 | Steam

That’s it for the bigger names. Let’s move on to the Indies.

Tunic

I’ve been waiting for this since I played the demo at Gamescom 2018. An isometric Zelda-like Action Game. With a cute little fox. Puzzles. Monsters. Looks great. This will be a welcome diversion after Elden Ring.

Planned for: March 16, 2022 | Steam

tERRORbane

I¹ve played this at the EGX Rezzed 2019 in London. It’s a meta game. Where you work out some bugs. So if you liked There Is No Game : Wrong Dimension, you might like this as well. And if you haven’t played There Is No Game you should.

Planned for: Q1 2022 | Steam

Elderand

I think I first noticed this game in a Pixel Art group on Facebook. They posted some Old/New on their channel and I really like the art. This is goint to be an Action RPG with skill-based combat. Can’t wait to see the final game.

Planned for: 2022 | Steam

Saviour

Ok, the title is way too generic. The story, too. But, just look at the title character’s moveset. This looks like an amazing action platformer. I wanna play.

Planned for: ??? | Steam

Haiku, the Robot

Another cute pixel art platformer. I can still play a few more of those. Gimme.

Planned for: Coming Soon | Steam

The Last Night

This Preview got everybody hyped back in 2017. After all this time the game is surely coming out this … wuahahaha … ah … who am I kidding?

Planned for: Oh please … | Steam

Replaced

While The Last Night may never come, Replaced looks just as glorious. It’s supposed to be an action platformer in 2,5D. But this could just as well be cinematic platformer à la Another World. Doesn’t really matter to me. I will by this one for the art alone.

Planned for: 2022 | Steam

Cursed to Golf

Adventures in Golf Purgatory. Sounds great. Looks like an ideal game to play between some of the longer titles this year.

Planned for: Coming Soon | Steam

Justin Wack and the Big Time Hack

Point. Click. Time Travel. Robots. All the ingredients of a great adventure. I hope.

Planned for: Spring 2022 | Steam

Nadir

No gaming year is complete without trying two, three, four new deckbuilders. Deadly Sins against demons? Yes, please.

Planned for: Coming Soon | Steam

The Stanley Parable: Ultra Deluxe

I can’t believe the trailer is from December 2018. Now it’s three years later – and the trailer is still great.
Anyway, the original game already existed. Why did it take so long to add some stuff? Strange. Anyway, I never played The Stanley Parable before (though I bought it some time ago). Might as well play the Deluxe Edition.

Planned for: Early 2022 | Steam

Hollow Knight: Silksong

I can’t imagine anyone who played (and finished) Hollow Knight and is to not waiting for Silksong. But will this be out in 2022? Who knows.

Planned for: ??? | Steam

Cuphead – The Delicious Last Course

Whoops, I forgot one. Of course, this is just a DLC, not a complete new game. But hey, a whole new island, a new player character, new weapons, new bosses. And a really good opportunity to take another bite out of the main course.

Planned for: June 30, 2022 | Steam

2022 vs. the Backlog

Puh. That’s something around 13 games. Not that much for other players. But with Elden Ring in the mix there won’t be much time left for anything else. That means,
it’s quite likely that I will buy them all. But really unlikely that I will finish even half of them. Considering that I spend most of 2021 with No-Death-Runs in Dark Souls I and wasted hours with Hearthstone Battlegrounds, and finished only a measly six games. That’s rather … pathetic.

And competing with the new games is the ever growing Backlog. With latest additions like Scarf, Before Your Eyes, Exo One, Maquette, Ghostrunner, Moncage, Genesis Noir, DeathLoop, Hades, Outer Wilds … Also, I recently bought Wizardry 6: Bane of the Cosmic Forge. Because I didn’t finish the game in the 90s. Then there’s also the Turrican Ultra Collector's Edition I am still waiting for …
